kajeet Family Plan

How much does it cost to get kajeet for an entire family? Combine the new Parent Plans we are testing with our kid-optimized rate plans and it’s the most affordable solution around.

For example:

1) Family with 3 communicators (e.g., family with a parent and two teens who are all social): ~$80/month

  • Parent uses the kajeet unlimited Talk and Text plan – $49.99 per month
  • Each teen uses our 60 anytime minute/unlimited text plan: $14.99 per month per line

Total? Only ~$80/month for 3 lines for heavy communicators! And the teens can use more minutes for only 10 cents per minute (or they can upgrade to our $19.99 plan and get an additional 90 anytime minutes for just $5 more).

2) Family with 3 light communicators (e.g., a mom with modest usage and two kids that each use 20 minutes and 20 texts per month): ~$36/month

  • Parent uses the kajeet Parent 500 minutes and 100 texts plan: $19.99 per month
  • Each kid uses the kajeet $4.99 Basic Plan (with 10 included minutes). They take advantage of the low 10 cent rate for additional minutes/texts to purchase 10 extra minutes and 20 texts. Each spends only $7.99/month

Total? Only ~$36 per month for 3 lines! Plus, you can change plans at any time – and there are no annual contracts.

Who wants to worry about what cell phone company their friends (or kids’ friends) have? And who wants to be concerned with exactly how many minutes everyone in the family is using at any point in time just to make sure you don’t get hit with expensive overages?

Those days are ending with affordable pay as you go plans. And kajeet allows you to manage them all from a single account. Simple.

What’s the catch? Well, for now this is a test of kajeet Parent Plans, so it is a limited time offer. You must sign up for a Parent Plan before 1/26/10 to take advantage of these plans. If you are a new customer, this means you need to purchase by 1/5/09 in order to get your phone, activate it, and select the plan.

If you want to take advantage of our parent plan options, call care at 1-866-452-5338 to purchase your phone or select your plan.  (If you prefer to purchase online, select “this is a gift” during purchase and call care to activate and get put on these Parent Test plans.)  As always, if things go well with the test we consider making these plans part of our standard rate plan options.

Thoughts? We appreciate your comments and feedback on all our plans.

    Interesting examples.

Are you only targeting single parent homes?

  2. Carol Politi Says:

    Hi Jay,

Good point! My thought was that a fair number of families get one phone paid for by their office and end up with one parent and several kids on a family plan.

For a two parent family plan, you can easily see where you might end up with a heavy user, a moderate user, and two social kids. In that case, the four line family plan (unlimited talk n’ text for $49.99, 1000 anytime minutes and 100 texts for $29.99, and two kids on the 60 anytime minute/unlimited text plan for $14.99 would cost ~$115 (including the 5% merchant processing fee). That’s a lot of capacity for $115! – on a service with no activation fees and no annual contract – and with the ability to change plans at any time.

This plan does not tack on the substantial line fees, telecom taxes, and USF charges that are added to contract plans – we price these into the plan price.

Families with the same parent usage, but with two kids getting their first phones (kids that are light communicators based on the assumptions in my post above) will see a significantly lower price (~$100 for a 4 line family plan!).

kajeet also provides a convenient portal that makes it easy to see your usage – and a parent/family wallet you can set up to ensure, if someone goes over their phone allowance, family numbers can always be dialed.

  3. Dai Says:

Does minutes count for receiving call?

  4. Carol Politi Says:

    Hi Dai,

Yes – calls you make and receive all count toward minutes. This is a standard in the United States (but is not traditionally the way mobile minute accounting is done outside of the United States).

  5. Dan Says:

Carol, I’m interested in a family plan, but Kajeet is new to me and I want to know what kind of coverage do you have?

  6. Carol Politi Says:

kajeet runs on the Sprint digital network. Please check our coverage at this link to see if our service will work for you.

  7. Jennifer Says:

Can a Kajeet phone (with the Unltd. Talk and Text plan) get service and be used in Canada (i.e. British Columbia while on vacation).

  8. Carol Politi Says:

Hi – The kajeet phones will work throughout the United States but not in Canada at this point! You can check our coverage at this link.

  9. Katie Says:

Hey Carol, I wish this had been emailed to kajeet account holders, I’d have jumped to be a part of the test. Any options for late comers?!?!?

  10. Carol Politi Says:

    Hi Katie,

Please contact care if you want to try one of these plans. You can reach kajeet customer care at 1-866-452-5338. Just specify the Parent Plan you want and our care agent will be able to put you on that plan.

  11. Stephanie Says:

For two parents on the unlimited talk ‘n text parent plan, will that be $100/mo.?

  12. Carol Politi Says:

The total will be $105/month – and that is it! You won’t find an array of additional line fees, taxes, etc. added on to your account (which can be another $20/line). You can manage all lines from a single login on kajeet.com. There is no annual contract, no activation fee, and no termination fee. Plus, our network access is provided by the high quality nationwide Sprint PCS network. This means you will be able to use your phone when you need it!
